Here are three fairly nice original photos of Canadian National 2-8-2's #3312, #3547 & #3728.
Montreal Locomotive Works built this 2-8-2 Mikado in 1917 originally as Canadian Government Ry #2912 (serial #58357, class S-1-c) but was renumbered in 1919 as Canadian National #3312. The loco lasted for nearly 43 years before being scrapped in May of 1960.Original specs - 63" drivers, 180 psi boiler pressure, 27x30" cylinders, engine wt of 281,500 lb and tractive force of 53,115 lb. The photo comes from the Tom Kinger collection and is now in my colleciton.
The Montreal Locomotive Works built Canadian National 2-8-2 #3547 (serial #64497, class S-2-a) and delivered it in August of 1923. After a service record of nearly 36 years, the loco was sent to the scrapper's torch in August of 1959. Original specs - 63" drivers, 185 psi boiler pressure, 27x30" cylinders, engine wt of 314,800 lb and tractive force of 54,600 lb. The photo comes from the Tom Kinger collection and is now in my colleciton.
Alco-Schenectady built Canadian National 2-8-2 #3728 (serial #60313, classS-3-a) in December of 1918 originally as Grand Trunk Western #468. In 1923, it was renumbered GTW 3728 with later being labeled CN. The loco was scrapped in April of 1958 after nearly 40 years of service. Original specs - 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 26x30" cylinders, engine wt of 290,000 lb and tractive force of 54,724 lb. No date was listed so an approximate one was used. The photo taken by Wally Fortier comes from the Tom Kinger collection and is now in my colleciton.
