Rare photo of the Combustion Engineering Inc world's largest Schnabel car taken by an unidentified rail fan.
Here is a view of the world's largest specialized Schnabel car ever built. The load is suspended between the two ends of the cars by lifting arms; the lifting arms are connected to an assembly of span bolsters that distribute the weight of the load and the lifting arm over many wheels. The load in this case was part of a "Cool Water Coal Gasification Program" as the banner states on the tank. This program was under experimental phase at the Cool Water Plant at Southern California Edison Company's generating station at Daggett, California. No photographer was listed for this photo which is now in my rr collection.
